Institute on the Environment Grant Opportunities

Mini Grants
Since 2011, IonE Mini Grants have spurred new collaborative efforts by providing small amounts of funding to interdisciplinary groups of faculty, staff, and students from across the University of Minnesota system.

Institute on the Environment Mini Grants are designed to support and spark collaborative projects addressing environmental and sustainability issues across the University of Minnesota five-campus system. These grants of up to $3,000 may be used for a range of research, leadership, education, storytelling, and outreach activities.

Mini Grants have two regular funding cycles; Spring (March) & Fall (Sep-Oct).

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Justice Grant
The Institute on the Environment’s mission is to lead the way toward a future in which people and the planet prosper together. To further that mission, we acknowledge the role social inequality has played in perpetuating disproportionate environmental outcomes and have established a pilot fund of $30,000 to accelerate 3-6 projects that help people and the environment prosper together more equitably and justly.

UMN faculty, staff, and students from all University of Minnesota campuses are encouraged to apply for up to $10,000 in funding. All projects must have a clear connection to issues of equity and the environment and/or sustainability. Types of work we expect to fund include: seed funding, research, travel, events, engagement, relationship cultivation, curriculum development, and educational programming.
